Police Break Up Gay Rally in Moscow; Ian Reisner Made the New York Times; Ricky Martin's Dating Challenges

Police Break Up Gay Rally in Moscow

Remember when many of us refused to support the Olympics in Russia because of the way LGBT people are being treated there? At the time, gay men like Johnny Weir thought we should separate sports from politics, and he supported the Russian Olympics...in the lamest way possible. They even sent a delegation to Russia with some very well known sports names in order to prove some kind of point. Well, they proved nothing and it should have been boycotted. Here's what's still happening in Russia to LGBT people.

Police broke up an unsanctioned gay rights rally in central Moscow on Saturday, detaining around 20 people, including anti-gay campaigners who attacked the activists.

The campaigners had requested permission to hold a gay pride parade today, but Moscow authorities blocked the request for the tenth year in a row - an annual ritual that has come to symbolize Russian authorities' hostility to public expressions of support for gay rights.

A 2013 law against gay "propaganda" also sparked an outcry among Russian rights activists and in the West. But partly reflecting the influence of the Orthodox church, many Russians back the law or have negative feelings toward gays.

Ian Reisner Made The New York Times

Yes, this is the same Ian Reisner I posted about yesterday, and several times in the past. Evidently, the New York Times thought this was newsworthy, too. And, there's more to the story I didn't see in gay presses.

“In the interest of transparency, I gave Senator Cruz a $2,700 check to show my support for his work on behalf of Israel,” Mr. Reisner said in a statement he provided after The Times learned of the donation from two people with direct knowledge of it. “When I realized his donation could be misconstrued as supporting his anti-gay marriage agenda, I asked for the money back. Senator Cruz’s office gave the money back, and I have no intention of giving any money to any politicians who aren’t in support of L.G.B.T. issues.”

And it gets even worse.

Yet the anger at the hoteliers has been fierce and unrelenting. Mr. Reisner is under great pressure from angry residents in the Fire Island Pines who want him to divest of his interest in the commercial property there. In early May, Eric von Kuersteiner, a businessman on Fire Island who previously owned the properties in the harbor, even approached Mr. Reisner offering to buy him out for somewhere in the ballpark of $2 million.

It's a more in-depth article, and gives far more information than anything you will read in a gay press.

Ricky Martin's Dating Challenges

You know, it's Ricky Martin. He can talk about anything he wants and I'll listen. In this piece he discusses a few of the dating challenges he's faced as a single dad.

"We’re all men. It’s in our DNA to go for it," he told The Sun. "But I have two boys and I cannot bring different men every day into my house."

Martin split from longtime boyfriend, Carlos Gonzalez Abella, in 2014. Still, he remains hopeful he'll tie the knot one day, saying he loves "the romanticism" of a wedding and that a marriage certificate "is important."

The top priority in his next relationship, he added, is a deep, personal connection.

"I like to have a conversation, looking into someone’s eyes and finding out their sense of humor," he told the publication. "I’m not saying you have to be an Adonis, but you have to connect."

Again, it's Ricky Martin. Do I have to say anything else? The man could have twelve toes and eat crackers in bed and I doubt anyone would fault him for that :)

The rest is here.

Bachelorette Contestants Homophobic? Ian Reisner and Ted Cruz; Lesbian Catfishing Married Gay Man

Bachelorette Contestants Homophobic?

I've never seen this show, or The Bachelor. I'm not a huge fan of reality TV because it's all staged and there's very little reality associated with it...unless the reality is a homophobic content. You know the kind of comments that people make like, "That's so Gay." Evidently, because they think gay is so funny...or whatever.

Cue the disappointment. And the outrage.

It turns out Clint Arlis and JJ Lane, the two straight Bachelorette contestants who claimed they’d fallen in love with each other while taping the ABC reality show, were only “doing it for the cameras” and that “nothing gay ever happened.”

You can read more here. On Twitter there's a hashtag that I love...#thatssostraight. People on Twitter have taken to using it whenever they see this kind of passive aggressive homophobia. I've done it more than a few times because I see this kind of thing almost two or three times every single day.

Ian Reisner and Ted Cruz

Now they've found out that the wealthy gay hotelier, Ian Reisner, donated money to Ted Cruz. For some reason, it feels as if Reisner is being targeted.

Afterwards, Reisner claimed the dinner wasn’t a fundraiser and that he didn’t give Cruz any money, telling New York magazine: “There were no checks given. It was nothing like that.”

Well, it turns out that was a bunch of Bologna with a capital B.

The New York Times has just learned that Reisner wrote a personal check to Mr. Cruz’s 2016 presidential campaign in the amount of $2,700, the maximum allowed by law, right around the time the dinner took place.

The rest is here, with the entire history of this Ian Reisner situation. I would never donate money to Ted Cruz, however, I'm not all that fond of the way some are taking such pleasure in all this. Could it be that the liberal gay press is targeting a gay conservative? I don't know enough about it to answer that question, but I have seen that done before.

I have a feeling Reisner will respond to this and I'll be posting about it yet again before next week is over.

Lesbian Catfishing Married Gay Man

I don't know what to make of this one either. A young guy named David Messerschmitt who is married to a woman hooked up with someone through a Craigslist ad, thinking it was a hot gay man. Unfortunately, Messerschmitt found out he'd been catfished by two young gay women when he met them at a Washington D. C. hotel.

Gallmon entered Messerschmitt’s room at the unnamed hotel and attempted to rob him. We’d say “that’s when things went wrong,” but this whole mess was clearly wrong from the very beginning.
The young woman claims that Messerschmitt trapped her in the room, triggering a previous trauma from a past assault.

At least that’s the argument she’s using in court to try and explain how she came to stab Messerschmitt seven times in the abdomen, groin and heart, killing him.

She made it out of the room with $40 cash and Messerschmitt’s metro card, and walked hand-in-hand with Johnson to a bus stop. Housekeeping found Messerschmitt’s body the next day, his arms bound in rainbow-colored zip ties.

The rest is here. I know I say this all the time, but I think it shows how many more gay people there are out there posing as straight. And it goes without saying how dangerous online hook ups can be.

Trevor Donovan on The Backlot; Renee Richards on Bruce Jenner; Gay Pornsters Wearing Protective Goggles; Is Brad Pitt Bisexual?

Trevor Donovan on The Backlot

When I wrote the character of Luis in very first Virgin Billionaire book, I wanted him to have a safe place to go for when everything in the world started to crumble around him...that one perfect place where nothing could ever hurt him. So I did what I thought was real at the time, for a young gay man. I gave him a favorite web site that I'd loosely modeled after the real web site of Elisa Rolle, only the focus in the book was more about the artistic photos of male models, not books or reviews. In this case, there was some erotica, but the photos on the web site in the book were not always meant to be sexual. The focus was on the art and the escapism.

So when I find photo shoots like this one that Trevor Donovan did on The Backlot, I like to share with readers. I think this would be something that Luis would have loved in The Virgin Billionaire.  And I wrote The Virgin Billionaire long before I ever saw any of Donovan's photo shoots anywhere.

Trevor Donovan has been a favorite here on TheBacklot ever since he played adorable (and sexy) Teddy Montgomery on the 2008-2013 reboot of 90210. Since then he’s made appearances on various series like The Client List and Melissa & Joey, but this weekend he heads west along with Bill Paxton, Ray Liotta and Brendan Fraser for the History Channel’s much-anticipated Texas Rising. The mini-series is directed by two-time Oscar-nominated director Roland JoffĂ© (The Killing Fields, The Mission) and Donovan plays “Kit Acklin” a “wise-ass and expert horseman whose chivalry and equestrian skills are matched only by his gun-fighting prowess.”

You can get there from here. There's a whole collection of some of the most artistic male art I've seen in a while. My own personal thoughts about what makes photos like this art is that I don't see an agenda there. I just see the male form. In other words, when Nick Jonas poses for any photo shoot, even though it's great, I always feel as if there's an agenda behind what he's doing that's geared toward nothing but pure clickbait...like cheap wine in an expensive bottle. I don't get that feeling with this photo shoot Donovan did. ...And...the comments are adorable.

Renee Richards on Bruce Jenner

I think Renee Richards was one of the first brave souls of the past who had the guts to come out as transgender in the 1970's. And it wasn't easy back then, not by any means.

Now Richards is 80 years old and she's commenting on Bruce Jenner.

'You have to realize that somebody who is an entertainer, or even like with Bruce Jenner - a person like that can have a sex change and be just as accepted as an entertainer or a TV star or something like that afterwards,' Richards, now 80, tells GQ in a rare interview.

Richards won the right to compete in the 1977 US Open and although she lost in the first round in singles, she made it to the finals of the women's doubles. She later went on to coach Martina Navratilova in the early 1980s.

Then she returned to ophthalmology and practiced in New York City and it is in that kind of situation where she says being transgender is more difficult.

'When I came back to practice after being so notorious, I couldn’t ever be a frivolous, entertainment-type, public kind of character,' she says. 'I mean, I had to be the same confidence-engendering… I’m operating on people’s eyes; I’m operating on their kid’s eyes. I mean, you better be some kind of a transsexual to do that! Otherwise you’re not gonna have much of a practice. It’s a whole different thing than being an entertainer.'

Jenner has beneftted from not only public understanding but from better understanding within the medical community which initially turned Richards away.

You can check out the rest here. I think she makes several valid points.

Gay Pornsters Wearing Protective Goggles

In a highly questionable attempt to stop the spread of HIV, the state of California is trying to force porn stars...not just gay...to wear protective eye gear...goggles...during shoots. Also, producers would be forced to pay for medical exams and hepatitis B vaccines. Most are claiming that if this goes through it will drive the adult entertainment industry out of the state.

‘These are regulations designed for medical settings, and are unworkable on an adult film set – or even a Hollywood film set,' said Diane Duke, the CEO of the Free Speech coalition.

While the limits would not just be on gay porn, Duke says her organization and other groups wants to see the proposed regulation be amended after consulting with performers, production houses and public health officials.

This way, she says, this will 'protect adult film performers without stigmatizing and shutting down an entire industry'.

You can read more here. It's hard to comment on this one because there are several gray areas, however, if California does this who is to stop other states from doing it as well. And how many other ways can something like this mushroom? Nothing with porn and free speech is ever a clear cut case.

Is Brad Pitt Bisexual?

I'm always careful with things like this because there's no proof, and it's all alleged. In the same respect, it's interesting in a hard to explain way.

One of the lower end tabloids best known for sensationalized, questionable reporting claims Brad Pitt is bisexual.

Hollywood insider Hesham 'Sham' Ibrahim makes the unsubstantiated claims the actor has a history of bisexuality that goes back at least 10 years.

'I don’t want to define Brad Pitt’s sexuality, but whatever it is, he’s into guys,' he told Star magazine.

The rest is here. Frankly, I think unsubstantiated is the key word here. I love poker, and as it stands I would NOT bet on this hand.

However, even if Pitt is bisexual, what difference does it really make? He's always been supportive of the LGBT community, he's never done or said anything to exploit the LGBT community, and in this case I think he has a right to his privacy.

Underwear Model Dad Bods; Tatum O'Neal Dates Women; Hot Photos of Harry Potter's Matthew Lewis; What Gay Life Was Like Years Ago

Underwear Model Dad Bods

I was going to post about BEA (Book Expo America) but since that is so freaking boring, and so heteronormative, this article caught my eye instead. It's focused on what advertisements would look like if they used dad bods instead of photo shopped bodies of perfect, muscular young men. And I think it's interesting because I've not only been seeing a lot of this lately, I also think people are getting tired of seeing the same old images of men in ads. People like a balance. I run four to five miles a day, and lift weights, but I do that for healthy reasons. What I get physically from running and working out is only something a little extra. I don't even like having my photo taken, so the body image for me is the least of it all.

In any event, here's what it's about:

Summer 2015’s hottest men’s health trend is apparently doughnuts, pizza and beer.

But we have a feeling the dad bod craze was always a bit of a nonstarter.

The folks over at Distractify seem to feel differently, though. They reimagined some iconic underwear advertisements with dad bods replacing the hard-won gym bods.

Which do you prefer?

You can check out the images here. It's interesting, but I'm not sure it will catch on everywhere. In all honesty, I don't think I'd put a dad bod on the cover of a gay romance novel. But as I mentioned, the balance is important.

Tatum O'Neal Dates Women

I'm not sure how we should react to this. I guess everyone will react differently. However, my initial reaction was...big deal. She dates women. And I like Tatum O'Neal, always did.

Proving that it’s never too late to be true to yourself, even for a precocious former child star, Tatum O’Neal has announced that she’s now dating women.

“I like women,” O’Neal tells People magazine. “I definitely have been dating mostly women recently.” The now 51-year-old actress avoids labeling her orientation and only says, “I’m not one or the other.”

Maybe it's a good thing that my initial reaction was big deal. It could mean we're moving toward a place where labeling isn't as necessary as it once was, which in turn removes the shame we've all lived with for so long. That can't be a bad thing. I can still recall when it was insulting as ask a guy if he was gay. Not so much anymore.

You can read more here.

Hot Photos of Harry Potter's Matthew Lewis

This is one of those multi-link articles from Queerty where they mention more than one topic. Part of it is about a photo shoot Harry Potter's Matthew Lewis did.

It’s another score for Gryffindor! More photos from Attitude magazine’s cover shoot with a barely-clad Harry Potter star Matthew Lewis have been released.

But if you really want to get to the most important part of this article, scroll down and read what Sir Ian McKellen has to say about what life was like for gays years ago. This blew me away.

Sir Ian McKellen once had a crush on his Vicious costar Derek Jacobi. “Yes, I did fancy Derek, but I didn’t act on it, God, no,” he reveals. “It was illegal, remember. I do get on my high horse about it, because it was so difficult. There were no gay clubs you could go to. No gay bars, no gay newspaper, nothing. What there was was a bit sleazy, I suspect. One of the reasons I became an actor was that you could meet gay people. Even then everything was difficult. When you went to America they asked, “Are you now, or have you ever been, homosexual?” I lied on the form. It was a different world.’

You can see all this here. I never knew a time like that, and I think it's fascinating to think about how gay men before me lived and survived.

E-book Piracy In 2015; Who Are the E-book Pirates; Exposing E-book Pirate Web Sites

E-book Piracy In 2015

I haven't posted about this topic in years, literally. Part of that is because I just gave up, and part is because some e-book piracy web sites have been taken down and I've even heard cases where e-book pirates have been prosecuted. I don't have links to any of that so I can't confirm it, but as far as I know those who still pirate e-books are breaking the law, they are taking a huge chance at getting caught, and a lot of authors are following them secretly so they can expose them.

With a simple search the most recent piece I found on the topic of e-book piracy was from The Digital Reader. Most people familiar with e-publishing are familiar with this site. I follow him on twitter and I've always found his pieces short, simple and factual.

This time he's talking about piracy and google.

Piracy is endemic to almost every retail site which sells digital content. Some sites such as Amazon routinely (and sometimes aggressively) police their catalog for pirated content, while others have a more laissez-faire attitude.

Google definitely falls into the latter category. The ad network is allowing large-scale commercial ebook piracy to infest Google Play Books.

Update: I have published a second installment. And Google has responded.

I HIGHLY urge you to read this article, here. The thing I found most fascinating was that some book pirates aren't just sharing anymore. They are SELLING e-books they've stolen, and at much lower prices. And they're attacking indie authors, too. I don't even want to begin to think about the e-books I've written that have been pirated. I used to be willing to turn a blind eye on the culprits who just shared. I understood, at the time, e-books are not a tangible item. But when I find out they are making money on indie authors and on publishers I find myself thinking a lot differently.

Who Are the E-book Pirates?

Now I'm linking to another web site that talked about e-book piracy in April. And I'm finding out a lot of new things I didn't even know...or realize. I had absolutely no idea this WTF-ery was going on.

Pirate sites pose as legitimate on-line booksellers and sometimes as a kind of Netflix for readers. They charge a monthly fee to members, giving them the right to download multiple books, all of which were pirated in the first place. Yield for the author: Many new readers perhaps, but no money.

And mystery novelists may be more vulnerable than writers in other categories. An independent bookseller recently told me that her customers are more likely to read mysteries on an e-reader because they are not the sort of books—like nonfiction, for instance—that people want to keep and reread. If, as mystery writers, we are more likely to sell e-books, we are more all the more vulnerable to Captain Hook.

You can read all of this, here. It also tells you who is trying to stop it and how authors can fight back.

Exposing a Book Pirating Web Site

And this next article comes from a web site that's caused a lot of controversy over the last two or three years because it focuses on bully practices in publishing. I've linked to them before, but had no idea they were also exposing book pirate sites, too. I found this, again, through a simple search.

We received an email today about this book pirating website.  Several authors told us they were able to remove their books successfully without anything affecting their computers.  Others, who tried to download free books to test the site told us that this is a phishing website.  Therefore we have removed the link.  We want everyone to be aware that there are many sites like these on the internet and to be extremely careful when you find one.

You can read the rest of that here.

As I said, I do know authors who have been following some of these secretive book pirates around for a while...and also following the readers who get their e-books from pirate sites. While I can't go into detail, I can say that I have a feeling we'll be seeing some readers being charged criminally in the future, and finding themselves facing steep legal fees they never saw coming. Some will be sued. It's not a chance I would want to take.

Straight Acting Gay Men Left Out; Orgasm and Prostate Cancer; Madrid's Hot Fetish Bar

Straight Acting Gay Men

Here's an article that talks about an interesting topic, and yet misses the most important point associated with the topic, as if it doesn't even exist. I'll get into that in a second, but first let me show you what I'm talking about.

The gist of the piece focuses on the struggle many straight acting gay men face...or rather, if there actually is a struggle. It's one of those meme things where guys leave quotes. In this case, it's the "straight acting" guys giving their thoughts.

Here's one:

Because I'm gay I get asked to do flamboyant things like dress as a girl. It bothers me that people fail to realize that not all gays are that way. Ignorance makes the world blind to reality.

There are others that follow the same voice and tone, here.

I believe the mainstream media has a lot to do with this. From books to films, they know how to exploit us well for monetary gain. Up until recently, most of the gay men we've seen portrayed in films and on TV have been the most flamboyant. I rarely ever found any I could personally identify with. There's nothing wrong with being flamboyant, however, the gay male community is much too diverse to only show one type of gay man. I'd like to feel as if I'm being represented once in a while, too. But more than that, people tend to overlook the fact that gay men, are indeed, men.  And we identify as men.

I also believe that as the entire LGBT community gains more equality and it becomes more natural to come out of the closet, we'll be seeing a huge show of gay men most people never even thought existed. In short: the gay men who act straight. Everyone says the Internet killed the gay bar. But I think it goes deeper than that sometimes. There is still a HUGE silent segment of the gay male community that has no interest in being segregated to a gay bar, living in a gay ghetto, or falling into the cliched stereotypes that have been forced down everyone's throat since the 1960's. And it's going to take time for that to happen. Most of us still don't even know that we're being appropriated on a daily basis.

Of course you have to check out the comments.

And, just to reinforce this with an example here's something that's been happening. They want to give Dan Savage his own TV show. Personally, I find everything about Dan Savage annoying, from his politics to his views on religion. And I am not, and will never, submit to the kind of peer pressure that says I have to like or even agree with Dan Savage. I think he's a douche who will do anything to get attention. But, Dan Savage is getting a TV show. That's a reality. And that's what I mean by how the media distorts things for many gay men. We are not, by any means, all like Dan Savage.

Orgasm and Prostate Cancer

Evidently, having an orgasm a day will help keep you from getting prostate cancer.

32,000 men participated in the study over the course of 18 years, making it the largest research to date on male ejaculation (or at least the largest scientific study). Participants shared their monthly ejaculation practices between the ages of 20 and 29, and 40 and 49.

Of the 32,000 participants, 3,839 eventually developed prostate cancer. Interestingly, men who reported orgasming more than 21 times a month showed a 22% lower risk of developing problems.

I always have problems with these studies. They never seem to prove accurate over a long span of time. I know a lot of people who have had cancer and died from cancer. None of them ever smoked, got too much sun, or were exposed to chemicals. I'm not saying things like smoking are good for you, but so far no one has been able to isolate how or why we get cancer.

You can read the rest here.

Madrid's Hot Fetish Bar

A lot of gay men I know go to Spain all the time...for a lot of fun. Ibiza seems to be the place of choice, however, this article talks about Madrid.

Odarko bills itself as “a benchmark in the international gay fetish scene.” Located in Madrid’s Callao gayborhood, the bar is known for its all-night fetish parties, elaborate laser lights, and house and electronic music spun by resident DJ Manuel Carranco. It’s a must-see for any gay, leather-loving traveler who finds himself passing through Madrid.

The rest is here. There are photos. Oh, are there photos. But all SFW.

This is a big part of gay culture nowadays, but by no means the only part of gay culture. And it's exactly what I was talking about earlier in this post. I also know a lot of gay men who would never, ever go to a bar like this, anywhere and at any time. And they live full, happy lives.  ...Diversity.

Bush Supporting Gay Marriage; Lesbian Love Story At Cannes; Jane Fonda's Gaydar Off with Warren Beatty

Bush Supporting Gay Marriage

This really shouldn't come a a huge shock to anyone, and it's not really all that political anymore. Former President George W. Bush didn't support gay marriage while he was President, but that all changed once he left office. This has been the same pattern we've seen with many politicians since gay marriage has gained more support in the mainstream.

The Bush family have a compound in Kennebunkport, Maine. Jeb Bush is a patron of  HB Provisions, a general store owned by Bonnie Clement and Helen Thorgalsen.

The couple married in 2013. George HW Bush, also a former president, attended the wedding.

You can read the rest here. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of this "safe" support in the months to come.

Lesbian Love Story At Cannes

A love story about two gay women starring Kate Blanchett and Rooney Mara recently won the Queer Palm Award at Cannes. According to this article, it's a love story set in the 1950's, in NY, when homosexuality was considered a crime.

Blanchett plays Carol, a wealthy married woman who falls in love with an ambitious shopgirl played by Mara.

Earlier this month, Blanchett revealed that she had 'many' relationships with women but later denied having had any lesbian relationships.

The film is said to be a strong contender for the Palme d'Or which will be announced on Sunday.

You can read the rest here. I haven't seen it and know nothing about it so I can't comment.

There were tweets going around for a while where Kate Blanchett allegedly said she'd had relationships with other women. I honestly didn't pay much attention to them at the time, and don't care too much about it now. But this is interesting.

Here's a link to the article where Kate Blanchett denies having lesbian sex.

This quote is rich.

'I think what often happens these days, if you are homosexual, you have to talk about it constantly; it has to be the only thing you put before your work and any other aspect of your personality.'

Well, yeah. I think that would apply to almost any minority who has been discriminated against. If she was gay she would have phrased that differently. But I'm not going to continue. Everything about this just makes me uncomfortable. I doubt I'll be seeing this film.

Jane Fonda's Gaydar Off with Warren Beatty

If you've never seen an older Warren Beatty film, you should. At one time he was one of the hottest men in Hollywood. And his storied romances with many of Hollywood's most famous women go on forever. This man has always been the epitome of heterosexuality.

However, Jane Fonda thought he was gay.

But Jane Fonda, who rose to movie stardom in the early 1960s at the same time as Beatty, was apparently immune to his considerable charms.

'I thought Warren was gay,’ the two-time Oscar winner tells W Magazine.

Why did she think so?

‘He played piano, and all his friends were gay.’

You can read the rest here. I know it's only speculation on my part, but maybe Warren Beatty just wasn't into Jane Fonda. You know, not everyone is.

I'll ignore the part about gay and playing the piano. Fonda is an old woman and doesn't know any better. It's generational.

Ireland Gay Marriage Popular Vote; Avoiding "Swamp Crotch;" Pray the Gay Away

Ireland Gay Marriage Popular Vote

When put to a vote, gay marriage recently won in Ireland by a huge margin. The most significant part of this is that it's the first time gay marriage won by a popular vote, anywhere.

This article talks about five reasons why it went this way:

Ireland is one of the most Catholic nations in the world. The vote was a thumb in the eye of Irish bishops who made a last-ditch appeal to the faithful, who haven’t forgiven the bishops for the Church’s child-abuse scandals. The bishops’ failure shows how frayed the Church’s hold is on those in the pews. Worse still, it’s not as if pro-marriage Catholics felt that they were bucking the Church. In fact, many believed that they were following Church teachings that demand fairness. The power of the Catholic Church isn’t what it once was in Ireland. But what diminishes the Church’s hold there will inevitably hurt the hierarchy in the U.S. as well. After all, the Church is a global corporation.

You can read the rest here.

I have many opinions on this topic, however, this time I'd rather just congratulate Ireland for a job well done and smile.

Avoiding "Swamp Crotch"

I had no idea what "swamp crotch" was until I read this. Evidently, it's about cleaning your private parts.

There's a list of things to do...because showering regularly I guess just isn't good enough anymore.

“It should be remembered that sweat is in fact odorless, it is only when it is broken down by bacteria that it smells.” says Tee.

The key to freshness is limiting the amount of moisture before that breaking down can even place.

“Thorough drying of the area after a shower (using a hair dryer if necessary) is vitally important to prevent or reduce these problems.”

And there you go. They forgot to mention water is wet.

You can read the rest here...or not.

Pray the Gay Away

I think I posted about this bishop, but I can't remember. In any event, this same Catholic bishop is now having second thoughts about whether gay people can pray the gay away.

He said his comments were misinterpreted and that he regretted any pain he may have caused.

“I never wanted to hurt or stigmatize anyone,” Lovey said. “I don’t consider homosexuality to be an illness.”

“But,” he continued, “I do know people whose homosexual tendencies were fleeting, without claiming this is the case for everyone. I used the term ‘cure’ for a person who was homosexual and who talks in these terms about his personal experience.”

Now that's something I never heard of either.

You can read the rest here.

Duggars and Sex Abuse Reports; Let's Give Ian Reisner a Break; Give Sam Kalidi a Break, Too

Duggars and Sex Abuse Reports

I've rarely posted about these Duggar people on the blog because I always found them strange. And for other reasons that didn't actually go as far as the latest development with them. Most recently, Josh Duggar, who heads one of the most anti-gay marriage firms in the world, was linked to sex abuse.

Duggar is one of the members of the evangelical Christian family that stars in the TLC reality series 19 Kids and Counting. He is one of the 19 children of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar and a married father of three himself.

'Twelve years ago, as a young teenager I acted inexcusably for which I am extremely sorry and deeply regret,' Duggar said in a statement. 'I hurt others, including my family and close friends.' ... I would do anything to go back to those teen years and take different actions.'

You can read the rest here. If nothing else, aside from how sorry I feel for those innocent people who were abused, this will at least be an example to use the next time a far right Christian points the finger at gay people.

Let's Give Ian Reisner a Break

I'm starting to feel bad for this dude. I'm not joking around either. He's taken a lot of heat for having a dinner "event" in his multimillion dollar NY home for none other than Ted Cruz.  At first, Reisner made an unusual apology, then he insulted everyone, then he made a few more odd comments, and now he's donating money to Fire Island.

Here's part of a long letter he recently penned:

Now let me state unequivocally that I made mistakes. While my initial intention was bi-partisan dialogue about National & Israeli security, I’ve come to learn that intentions and outcomes are different things. The outcomes of my actions are that I’ve deeply hurt our community – and I am truly sorry.

In order to help build a stronger community I am taking the following steps:

– I am renewing and redoubling my commitment as an ardent supporter of LGBT causes.

– I will continue to invest my resources in the Pines, its cultural programs and activities that celebrate the diversity and acceptance of its community members, so that it always holds its rightful place in LGBT history.

– To this end, today I made a donation to the ‘FIPPOA-PAC’ — matching All funds raised in its last active year — which supports politicians committed to the Pines and to LGBT issues.

You know, it's not often in life you see someone continue to try to change something he did. And I find Reisner to be working harder than most would work to rectify his situation. You can read the rest of his letter here. Maybe it's time to give him a break. He's an openly gay man trying to survive in a world where that alone is still a novelty.

Give Sam Kalidi a Break, Too

Sam Kalidi created a meme for Memorial Day and some people in the comments of this next link didn't seem to get it. I've looked at it over and over and I honestly can't seem to find anything wrong, nor did I see anything disrespectful. It looks as if Kalidi is paying respect to the gay men and women who have served, who have served and died, and to those who are still serving.

Seriously. I didn't see anything glib about it.

Editor’s note: We’ve asked online comedian, voice actor and chest hair model Sam Kalidi to create a new meme each week for Queerty readers. This week he proves once again that gays and lesbians have a rich history of serving in the military.

You can see it all here.

I think most of my readers know that I'm usually the first one to open my big mouth about something I thought was wrong...or in poor taste, especially when it comes to something as serious as Memorial Day. But this time I can't for the life of me find anything wrong with what Kalidi did...in spite of the way people commented.

Free Gay E-book: Guy With Two Penises; Ryan Phillippe's Nude Scene: Catch Hell; Fifty Shades of Dick; Jobriath First Openly Gay Pop Star

Free Gay E-book: Guy With Two Penises

For Memorial Day Weekend, I'm offering the latest book in The Rainbow Detective Agency series, A Guy With Two Penises, for free. It's on sale now at allromanceebooks.com, and at most other web sites where e-books are sold. The only place it's not free is Amazon...I wish I could do it for free there, but they won't allow it unless I sign an exclusive. And I believe in distribution far and wide with any book.

So here's the link to Allromanceeebooks.com.

And here's one to Smashwords.

The sale runs until Tuesday.

Ryan Phillippe's Nude Scene

The other night I saw that I'd recorded Catch Hell on DVR, starring Ryan Phillippe. I'll admit that I don't follow Phillippe much and I don't know much about him, but according to what I've read he directed and wrote the film, too.

I liked it. I wouldn't call it Oscar material, but it was a good film for what it was and I thought it was a fast two hours. But more important, there was one of the most unlikely gay scenes I've ever seen in a movie. To be honest, I was kind of hoping it would happen, and it did happen. And if you want to take this to a deeper more meaningful level, I think it's something that could happen given the circumstances, the mentality of the characters, and the setting. I also do follow some celebrities on social media and I always find it interesting the way they travel around to do certain films on location.

And then there was the brief nude scene with Phillippe.

Ryan Phillippe directs himself in his new film Catch Hell--though we think it'd be more aptly titled Catch Heaven based on the presence of Ryan's bare ass!

That being said, the subject matter appears to be quite dark based on these stills, so we'll just proceed without further comment.

I'm not going into a full review, but I liked it and I would recommend it if you're looking for something different. It's one of those movies that don't get too much attention, but deserve more...think the opposite of Fifty Shades of Grey.

You can check out the nude photos of Ryan Phillippe here. I think it's SFW.

Fifty Shades of Dick

This, of course, is parody. It's a compilation of photos from movie scenes where there was male full frontal nudity or bulge.

This is a compendium of the most important bulges and full-frontal peen that one can see in films that are available on Netflix and at their local Redbox. Some I knew, some my Jezebel colleagues helped me with, and some were complete and delightful surprises.

The biggest surprise was that this took me more than four hours to put together.

It's from Jezebel so I'm assuming it's SFW, but don't quote me there.

You can check that out here.

Jobriath First Openly Gay Pop Star

I honestly never really thought about who the first openly gay pop star was, and I still think there are some who might dispute this...you never know. However, this is what one article is claiming.

If you’re unfamiliar with the colorful, tragic story of cult entertainer Jobriath, you can’t be blamed. Before the glam rock performer arrived on the music scene with nearly unprecedented hype only to crash and burn almost immediately, he’d already lived a colorful life in which he’d been a child piano prodigy, appeared in Hair, gone AWOL from the military, arrested and confined to a psychiatric hospital. He was eventually signed to a lucrative contract and surrounded by incredible hype as the next big thing and, as a testament to the burgeoning sexual liberation of the era, he never attempted to conceal his sexual orientation.

I never heard of him. The article/interview is fascinating and long, and you can read the rest here.

There's more about Jobriath here, at wiki. Interestingly enough, he was born in the Philadelphia area, not too far from Bucks County where I live.

Trevor Donovan, Texas Rising, Frontiers Interview; Gay Sex Shops In New York; Five Ways To Get Book Publicity

Trevor Donovan, Texas Rising, Frontiers Interview

I hadn't planned another post about Texas Rising until after the series airs this Monday, May 25th. However, I spotted this interview late last night with Trevor Donovan in Frontiers, which is an LGBT press, and thought I'd share. Here's a link to previous posts I've written about Texas Rising.

The interview gets into a little bit about Donovan's background and a gay role he once played on 90210. I never actually watched 90210, but I know that show still has a huge fan base all over the world. I actually regret not watching it just for work related reasons because I find many of the fans of the m/m romance genre are fans of 90210. And, for those of you who really, really need labels, which I'm personally starting to care about less and less lately, Donovan is straight.

In this quote from the interview, Donovan talks about how he prepared for the role of Kit Acklin in Texas Rising. This I actually do recall just from following Donovan on social media. From what I remember, the guy worked his ass off.

“The audition process was long for me. I went in four different times. I was taking horseback riding lessons throughout the whole audition process, just in case I did get it so I would be ready to rock. I just knew that it was going to take a lot of work on my part, looking at Westerns and how these guys presented themselves, and doing historical research. But it was all a lot of fun.”

For those who hope Donovan’s character will be a knight in shining armor and sweep one lucky lady off her feet, the actor admits, “Kit has definitely got a strong moral compass. He’s a guy who grew up with family values. The Texas Rangers were kind of vigilante misfits. Some of them were criminals and ex-criminals, but they were fighting for the greater good alongside the military. Kit is definitely the more level-headed and more educated, and I have a beautiful little side love story as well.” It’s that love story that Donovan teases might just pull at your heartstrings. “Keep your Kleenex nearby,” he laughs.

You can read the rest here.

And, you can follow Donovan on social media with these links, below. I can't promise you much, but I can promise that if you follow Donovan you'll never know what to expect. There are opinions, words of advice, a great deal of humor, photos of dogs...and more selfies in a week's time than most of us will ever take in a lifetime. I'm just joking about that. Seriously, all of the photos...not just most...are professional and actually have an artistic appeal that would work in coffee table books like those of George Platt Lynes. Why Donovan's agent isn't getting him book deals like that I don't know.

Gay Sex Shops In New York

I know I wrote about a gay sex shop in New York's Chelsea neighborhood in one of the Virgin Billionaire books. Of course, as usual, I just can't recall which book that is at this time. That's because there are a few sex shops in Chelsea. And now people are starting to complain and say there are too many sex shops and they corrupt kids and ruin the neighborhood. My brother lives in Chelsea and to be honest I never actually notice the sex shops all that much. They're almost invisible to me.

“It’s starting to feel like Times Square around here,” Stephen P. Williams told the New York Times.

Williams said he’s tired of seeing things like Boy Butter (“a revolutionary creamy formula”) and penis-enlargement systems (“used successfully for 30 years with 15 million satisfied customers”) being advertised in large window displays.

And this is priceless:

One man described as a “father” told the Times that he was recently cooking dinner with his 6-year-old son. When he asked him to get the olive oil, the child replied: “Dad, why don’t we use the Boy Butter?”

You get the idea. "Texas has a whorehouse in it..."

Five Ways To Get Book Publicity

I often see books being promoted on social media, mainly on Twitter, in the most clever ways...and in the most questionable ways. I actually feel bad for people sometimes. So when I see something that might help authors promote I try to share...because we all know that writing the book is nothing compared to promoting it these days.

As an author, when planning a publicity campaign, you probably think about contacting the press a few months before you launch a new book or embark on a book tour. But there are a lot of other ways to get press and blog coverage for your writing besides the usual book tour and book launch publicity campaign.

Here's a link to the rest of the piece. And frankly, I've begun to question a lot about promotion and how it's done. Like it's okay to pay Kirkus hundreds of dollars for a review, but not so okay to pay a reviewer not as well known as Kirkus for a review? Who made up THAT rule? I'm sorry. I'm not buying into that anymore. If the reviewer/reader read the book and gave it an honest review, I don't really care if she/he got paid or not. It's time someone said Kirkus is the emperor wearing no clothes. So if you have a great idea to promote your book, and that idea is legal and ethical, have fun. Your goal is to promote your book or books to the best of your ability. Just try to stay away from e-mail spamming. That's the one thing that will really piss people off.

And take a moment to check out the web site. It's all about the indie author and indie book. I think readers owe it to their wallets to check it out, too.

Trevor Donovan In Texas Rising, May 25th; Porn Purge On Twitter; Gay Pickles

Trevor Donovan In Texas Rising, May 25th

Here's a link to a photo of the entire cast of the upcoming History Channel series, Texas Rising. Trevor Donovan is the second one in, from the right. He's playing Kit Acklin, Texas Ranger.

Texas Rising will air this Monday, May 25th, on the History Channel at nine o'clock eastern time.
This post is just a brief reminder. I've posted in-depth details about it several times, here.

Here's a link to the History Channel web site.

Here's a link to an excellent blog post by a personal blogger about Kit Acklin that I found fascinating.

And, here's a link to Donovan's personal page with even more details about Kit Acklin:

1.- Christopher B. (Kit) Acklin who was a Texas Ranger in the 1840s.
2.- He was born in in Huntsville, Alabama. Huntsville was founded by Kit’s grandfather, Col. John Hunt.
3.- We don’t know when Kit Acklin moved to Texas. But he was one of the participants in the August 12, 1840, Battle of Plum Creek.
4.- The Battle of Plum Creek was a clash between allied Tonkawa, militia, and Rangers of the Republic of Texas and a huge Comanche war party under Chief Buffalo Hump, which took place near Lockhart, Texas, following the Great Raid of 1840 as the Comanche war party returned to west Texas.

You can find even more on Acklin, at the link provided above to Donovan's page. And there's really not much out there about him. Someone did his research well.

And then there's this, which is one of the best.

Porn Purge On Twitter

Evidently, Twitter is about to take the same censorship route as Facebook when it comes to what's considered porn. I phrased it that way because there's never been a set definition of porn. Some people think a guy not wearing a shirt is porn, and others think that...well you know how that goes.

In any event,

According to SunTrust Robinson Humphrey tech analyst Robert Peck, Twitter is preparing to purge an estimated 10 million porn-posting users. Ditching such a large chunk of users sounds drastic until you do the math: Twitter claims to have 302 million monthly users, so getting rid of the explicit posters will only account for about 3 percent of its total—although that’s just counting the users and not their followers. Twitter is a one-stop shop for all your media needs, whether you want to catch up on news, message a celeb in real time, or browse explicit images posted by adult stars. Purging the porn will surely upset millions of users, and would certainly put a dent in Twitter’s hip freedom of speech reputation.

You can read more here.

Obviously, I'm not fond of this kind of censorship in any form, anywhere. You can unfollow and block something you find offensive on Twitter. You don't have to be exposed to it. I do that all the time on Twitter. As I said, what defines porn is all up to the individual. And I have seen cases where people do, indeed, consider shirtless men porn. So before you get all thrilled about this, pay attention to the bigger picture, too. It's so bad with retail web sites that sell e-books you can't even use the words "daddy" or "boy" innocently, without having a book taken down thanks to search engines.

Gay Pickles

Here's a story about a gay owned and operated business that makes pickles...and other things.

The company is called Manfood...I think this is an advertorial, but I'm not sure.

The brand is the brainchild of 40-year-old Andre Dang. Born to a Malaysian mother and Vietnamese father, British-born Dang studied horticulture at Reading University.

A placement with leading department store chain M&S – which brought him into contact with buyers and food students – convinced him that he actually wanted to work in the food sector.

You can read more here. They didn't just start pickling and selling. They both have a great deal of experience in the food industry and in PR.

I hate to sound like a dream crusher, but I knew several gay men who tried to start businesses just like this. They invested everything and worked endlessly to get it started. It didn't end well. The fact is that most small businesses don't. And I've seen that happen too many times to too many people not to mention it.

Jeb Bush Opposes Gay Marriage; Angry Gay Pastor Is a Top; School Bus Driver Spreads Gay Hate

Jeb Bush Opposes Gay Marriage

I find Jeb Bush's comments on gay marriage disingenuous, and I hope he doesn't try to backtrack in the future. As far as I'm concerned, he made these comments and they will be the comments that stick with me throughout the next few years. Bush has not announced he will run for President, but all signs seem to indicate he will run.

In any event, here's part of what he said:

"It's at the core of the Catholic faith and to imagine how we are going to succeed in our country unless we have committed family life, (a) committed child-centered family system, is hard to imagine," Bush told the conservative Christian Broadcasting Network show, The Brody File, in an interview broadcast on Sunday.

"So, irrespective of the Supreme Court ruling because they are going to decide whatever they decide - I don’t know what they are going to do - we need to be stalwart supporters of traditional marriage," said Bush, who converted to Catholicism 20 years ago."

I have no idea what the Catholic faith has to do with US government, nor do I care. I've also read polls where most US Catholics support gay marriage.
You can read the rest here. This is where I think potential candidates always tend to underestimate the voters. I may not agree with everything Hillary Clinton says or does, I may not trust anything she says or does, but I would vote for her on just this one issue over Bush and never think twice about it. There are a lot of gay centrists out there, but not on this one issue. It's just too important.

Angry Gay Pastor Is a Top

This is always ironic, especially when you hear people like Jeb Bush mix religion with government. It seems another anti-gay man of the proverbial cloth was found advertising his stuff on Grindr. It's a long article, with screenshots, that shows how twisted these things can get. On the one hand a pastor is arguing against gay rights and on the other he's advertising himself on Grindr...with photos.

In an email exchange with Queerty, Makela confirmed the authenticity of the screen captures but declined to comment.

He also told Queerty that he had “resigned” from his position at the church after the story surfaced, and that his wife and senior pastor had been made aware of his extracurricular activities.

But his community also deserves to know. If Makela made even one LGBT kid at St. John’s “Christ-based” elementary school, their parents, friends, family or anyone who ever stepped foot in the church feel like being true to yourself is shameful (and it seems all too likely that he did), then we’re glad to share his hypocrisy with the world.

It's sad, it's frustrating, and it can be found here.I don't really like this kind of doxxing, but in this case it's proving such hypocrisy it's hard to argue against it.

School Bus Driver Spreads Gay Hate

This morning I noticed a woman on facebook post an update about how wrong she thought it was to allow little boys who identify as little girls into the girl scouts. She said something to the nature of "This is gay rights going too far." For me, that's an immediate block. I don't care about her free speech, or her opinions, and I don't have to listen to her. I'm only pointing this out now because of this latest issue with the school bus driver who told a little girl she'll burn in hell for being gay. I read about the school bus driver, but I experienced the facebook update personally. And it happens on a daily basis. This poor little girl had to deal with this in person. I only had to deal with the facie woman on social media.

Maurissa explained the bus driver sat down them and 'said that we are gonna burn in hell real bad...I didn't expect it to happen.'

The two girls had been playing a game where they chase each other's fingers up and down her arm. Maurissa said the driver told her she was 'touching her best friend too much, and she was gay for it'.

'She hurt my feelings very bad,' she added.

When Maurissa and her best friend were finally allowed to go to class, she told a teacher. Maurissa's mother was not informed the entire day.

The rest is here. This is an innocent child who had to figure out how to process this hate all alone.  And, once again, all roads lead directly back to religion interpreted through the eyes of a very stupid bus driver.

Seton Hall Priest Fired For Gay Support; Gay Guys and Cheating; Bruce Jenner's Unanswered Words

Seton Hall Priest Fired For Gay Support

For those who aren't from the Northern New Jersey, New York area, Seton Hall University is a large Catholic institution located in South Orange, New Jersey. Most of my family members actually went there and graduated, some with graduate degrees. In fact, my family wanted me to go there when I graduated from high school. However, after twelve long years of Catholic school, and having my ear pulled, and having to deal with the Catholic POV on every topic (they expect/teach you to think the way they do), I'd had enough of them and their religion and I opted for Fairleigh Dickinson University where there were no religious affiliations...at all. I have no regrets, especially after reading this article.

Reverend Warren Hall, who used to work at Seton Hall University in New Jersey, posted a message on Facebook supporting the NO H8  campaign.

'I've been fired from SHU for posting a pic on FB supporting LGBT "NO H8",' he said on Twitter.

'I'm sorry it was met with this response. I'll miss my work here.

There's more here.  There are comments that sound more hurt than angry.

Gay Guys and Cheating

Here's an interesting article about cheating while in a relationship. Of course we all know this is NOT limited to gay people. It's everyone, and it's everywhere, but some gay men have taken to Whisper to talk about their experiences. Frankly, I think there's something wrong with these guys.

And if we’re going to get real about it, monogamy isn’t a ship built for everyone, but our culture almost demands it. The real problem isn’t non-monogamy, it’s non-communication. We’re afraid to talk to our partners and afraid to be truthful with ourselves, and the secrets and lies are the poison that can eventually kill the love shared between two people.

You can read the rest here. Here's one:

I cheated on my boyfriend and after I was done I texted him "I love you" like nothing happened. We're gay.

I still think some things are better off left unsaid.

Bruce Jenner's Unanswered Words

I actually did watch the Diane Sawyer and Bruce Jenner interview and I think I know exactly what this next article is talking about.

Many who tuned in to the Diane Sawyer interview with Bruce Jenner were left feeling a little puzzled and uneasy, including Sawyer and Jenner, it seemed. What is Jenner’s new name? Should we use female pronouns? When will the transition take place? Perhaps the biggest source of puzzlement for many viewers was watching Sawyer’s failed attempts to attach easy labels to Jenner’s sexuality. If Jenner identifies as a woman, does that automatically mean the thrice-married Olympic star also identifies as a lesbian? Sawyer kept respectfully insisting on clear and unambiguous definitions, and Jenner kept resisting.

Basically, there are no simple answers. It's a very long article that I'm not even going to attempt to explain in this short post. But I do suggest reading it. I found a few of the answers I was looking for. Mainly...it's complicated.

I do think that Diane Sawyer handled the interview well. In the sense that she chose her words with care so as not to offend anyone. I try to do that all the time when I'm posting about topics like this because I'm not always certain what will, or will not, offend someone. I don't think that's a matter of being too PC. I just think it's giving the benefit of the doubt, and decorum.

Here's the link.

And then there are the comments. You've been warned :)

The Virgin Billionaire Series by Ryan Field

Here's an Amazon link to my Virgin Billionaire series. There are ten books (full novels) in the series, and unfortunately Amazon didn't give me a full page for the series alone. Amazon does this all the time. But you can see which books are from my series, clearly. All of these books are stand alones and you don't have to read them in consecutive order. The first book in the series is "The Virgin Billionaire."

Amazon Link.

The Virgin Billionaire was an awesome book. Jase is trying to find himself so he more or less leaves his old life and starts over again In New York City. There he meets Luis a rent boy who is his next door neighbor. Jase has never been with another man in his life. He seems to be searching for something but not sure at first what it is he his searching for.. I laughed and I cried while reading this book. Ryan portrayed the characters as real people in real situations.. I can't wait to read the rest of the series

Gay Hook Up Abbreviations; Kathy Griffin and Joan Rivers' Legacy; Gay In Uganda

Gay Hook Up Abbreviations

It seems like there's another "WTF" coming out each day thanks to social media. And this time it's all about gay hook up abbreviations.

BRB
What it means: Be right back.
What it really means: Goodbye forever.

 HMU
What it means: Hit me up.
What it really means: You’re hot.

 HU
What it means: Hurry up.
What it really means: I’m horny.

And there are 17 more here just like these. Some you already know, some I've never seen before. And I have a feeling there are a lot more of these coming soon.

Kathy Griffin and Joan Rivers' Legacy

I'm not sure why this is considered gay news, but it's been in all the gay presses so I figured I'd pass it along. Joan Rivers daughter, Melissa Rivers, who is out promoting a new book recently made a comment about how Kathy Griffin shit on her mom's legacy. I think everyone knows that Kathy Griffin took over for Joan on The Fashion Police, and then quit abruptly, with a statement I found rather generous. I saw the statement on Twitter the day Griffin made it and I didn't think she was slamming Rivers or her legacy. It sounded as if she was doing what was best for her own career. If you do a simple search you can read more about all that. I'm only posting about what Melissa River said.

My biggest complaint was the feeling that she kind of shit all over my mother’s legacy in her statement on leaving. And I know that was not an intentional reading of it, but that’s how I felt. …By calling the comedy and the style of it old fashioned. It was like, I understand what you were doing, you’re trying to save yourself, but don’t crap all over my mother to do it. That was very personal. But as a professional, that was her choice, that’s what she did. No hard, no foul, moving on.”

I don't remember the exact post where I mentioned this same topic not too long ago, so I can't link to it. But I basically made a point of stating that comedy evolves over time, and that what people found funny in 1910 was not considered funny in 1960, and so on. And that's just the way things evolve in general. So although I loved Joan Rivers' brand of humor because it was smart...I don't think it was always completely relevant in the latter years when compared to today's standards of comedy. The gay references Joan Rivers made for one thing really bothered me. The days of the gay man playing the pet poodle are coming to an abrupt end. And I don't think that's a slam against Joan Rivers. I think it's just stating a plain and simple truth. Comedy changes; the world moves on.

You can see Melissa Rivers' quote here.

Gay In Uganda

This is really a gripping article about what it's like to be gay in Uganda.

“The first thing we hate is homosexuality,” one man begins. “We hate that one completely. If we find a woman with a woman, we pull out one and we do it to her…We have sex with her…Serious rape.”

“So what would you do if you saw a gay man?” asks Yeung.

ADVERTISING
The man gets a disturbing smile on his face as he yells, “Kill! You kill that one! Woman and woman we rape, but man and man we kill.”

And it only devolves from there. But you really have to read the comments to understand how a good deal of this gay hate has transpired, thanks to Evangelical Christians. I've posted about that, too, but I can't remember how I tagged it. Here's one comment about a topic that doesn't get too much attention.

we cannot forget how many white evangelical AMERICANS are responsible for this. scott lively and rick warren are just two of a number of bigots who travelled to Uganda to whip these people into an anti-gay frenzy.
